BioBag packages the precision of Larval Therapy into a fully contained and easy-to-apply dressing.
Made because we care
BioBag is the culmination of decades of research into Larval Therapy and wound care.
Designed with patient acceptance and clinicians’ ease of use in mind, each BioBag is produced in an aseptic environment adhering to the highest hygiene and regulatory standards, allowing us to deliver a safe and effective product each time.
BioBag contains fly larvae of the green bottle fly Lucilia sericata, which are contained within the heat sealed polyester net. BioBag is applied directly onto a wound, with each treatment lasting around 4 days at a time. Once placed on a wound, the larvae do what they’ve evolved to over hundreds of millions of years to do – debride dead and non-viable tissue.
BioBag harnesses the ultimate power of nature in a form fit for modern 21st century medicine.
How BioBag works
-
1 Wound exudate passes freely through the finely woven polyester pouch to the outer absorbent dressing
-
2 The heat-sealed polyester bag keeps the larvae completely contained for the duration of the treatment
-
3 The pores of the BioBag allow the larvae’s mandibles to have direct contact with the wound bed
-
4 A sterile polyvinyl alcohol foam spacer allows free movement of the larvae within the BioBag
-
5 The larval secretions pass through the porous material of the BioBag to reach the wound bed
-
6 The larvae will grow from around 4mm to 12mm as they remove devitalised tissue and bacteria from the wound
-
7 Precise and precalculated dosage of larvae so that, other than wound size, no calculations have to be made
