Larval Therapy was shown on BBC One daytime drama ‘Doctors’ today.

During the Series 24 episode entitled Acting the Maggot, the character of nurse Luca McIntyre (played by actor Ross McLaren) applies larvae to his patient, Hilda (Lynne Miller). The aim being to debride a leg ulcer, that has caused Hilda discomfort for some time.

The storyline centres around Hilda’s profession as a scientist and her overwhelming desire to continue to go about her day-to-day activities, all the while, adamant not to accept the severity of her wound and the need for proper rest and relaxation.

Nurse McIntyre along with Hilda’s student lodger Sobia, gently persuade Hilda to try a round of Larval Therapy, in the hopes that her wound will be treated rapidly so that she can get back to her normal self as soon as possible.

‘Doctors’ has aired on BBC One since the year 2000, and attracts an audience of over 1 million viewers.
